Evia Island
The island of Evia is the second largest in Greece, following Crete, is situated off the eastern coast of Central Greece and offers glorious mountain roads, challenging treks, large fertile valleys, many uncrowded beaches, crystal clear waters, an ideal and exceptional destination for people of all ages. Evia has only become known as a tourist destination for all seasons within the last several years. Evia has an unchanged natural environment totally unaffected by mass tourism. A place that remains genuine, authentic and traditional.
Grape Harvesting
Grape picking is the most pleasant collective agricultural activity and takes place at the end of August or beginning of September. The visitor of “Rokanes Villa” is welcome to participate in grape picking in order to experience the generosity of the greek land and the bond of the people to their land and its products.
The grapes residue is left to ferment and in October it is transferred to copper stills to be distilled and produce the famous “tsipouro”, a “remedy” for body and soul.
Hiking
Southern Evia represents a hikers’ dream. Add to your booking an organized tour to the Dimosaris or Charakas gorge and prepare yourself for an unforgettable experience.
Olive Gathering
The "Rokanes Villa" allows guests to help with the olive harvest as part of a trip during which they also experience the sights and way of life in the region. Visitors can, if they want to pick the olives using any of a number of age-old harvesting techniques, working for just one day or for a number of weeks in a row. Then they can help transfer the harvested olives to a traditional olive press and initiate themselves into the traditional art of extracting the precious oil. The guests who have helped are welcome to take some oil home in lieu of payment or maybe even fill up a couple of bottles.
